OTACILIA SEVERA, PHILIPPUS I and PHILIPPUS II
The Damascus coinage was important in Roman times. It was first in the Greek language between Augustus and Alexander Severus, then in the Latin language from Philippe I to Gallienus. Damascus was located in the province of Coele Syria. It was connected to Bostra by a direct road. Philip I, it should be remembered, was a native of this city of Arabia and founded not far from her, that of Philippopolis in order to perpetuate his origin. Philip tried in imitation of the Severans to recreate an imperial "domus" constituted, in addition to the emperor, his wife and his son, with the desire to create a new dynasty, but without result.
