THE CONVENTION

This is the beginning of the federalist movement in the provinces. Marseilles is taken on August 25 and Lyons on October 17. The Vendeans, who had taken Saumur on June 9, were crushed at Cholet on October 17. The mass levy was decreed on August 23. On September 5, the Convention establishes the Terror.
